B's Crispy Honey Bars

recipe | John F. Defayette | 2013

topics:
  • Honey

My grandmother made the most delicious sweets, which always seemed to me to be fresh and so good. These recipes were handed down to my mother and now you too will know the secret. You guessed it. They were made with honey. As a boy I always enjoyed the honeycomb, never realizing how good it was as a natural food.

Ingredients

  • 5 Cups of Oven-Popped Rice Cereal (Rice Krispies)
  • 1 Cup Honey
  • 1/2 Cup Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Cocoa
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla

Method

Combine honey, cream and cocoa. Then cook over moderate heat to hardball stage. Remove from heat, add vanilla and set aside this syrup to add to the rice cereal. Stir briskly until rice is well coated. Press the mixture into a buttered 9 X 9 inch pan. Cool and then cut into squares. NOTE: Cream may be omitted.
